Why does astrid betray you

As it happens, Maro had it before you ever joined, but how would Astrid know that? In Oblivion we the newly joined member of the dark Brotherhood had to do the Purification of the Cheydinhal Sanctuary for the black hand. But that was with the night mothers instruction from the listener Lucien. They say that killing a Dark Brother or Sister will invoke the Wrath of Sithis, so, if these were created by Sithis, Astrid would technically be violating her master's rules by revoking the Tenets.

Interestingly enough, Astrid breaks all the Tenets during the Dark Brotherhood quests. Tenet 1: She dishonors the Night Mother by her reaction and attitude to having the Night Mother's corpse reside in the Falkreath Sanctuary. Tenets 2 and 5: She betrays the Dark Brotherhood, and directly leads to the deaths of most of the members.

It is possible that perhaps she did in fact invoke the Wrath of Sithis. In the end she realizes this and invokes the Black Sacrament on herself, fulfilling Sithis' Wrath. The reason that there's no widespread discussion about it on the levels of the horrible Civil War quest is that it should have been painfully obvious that Astrid would betray you.

I agree she wanted to make it like her private club I'm not surprised by that at all. All her actions pointed to that, and also comments from others that they were syrprised astrid is sending someone else out to deal with contracts In a way I'm surprised that Astrid didn't face the Wrath of Sithis much earlier; if there's such a thing.

But that was by a very disgruntled member of the black hand using rhetoric as a threat. I found it fun to slink in to a corner, quiet cast invisibility, watch as the Emperor's double ate the meal and died, and then enjoyed everyone looking for me. I could have easily escaped had it not been for the scripted nature of the quest. I would never have suspected Astrid as having set me up, had it not been explained to me by the script.

Moreover, Astrid never once shows any type of typical Nordic pride towards her roots or towards Skyrim. She even conspires with the Imperials for her own gain. Although Astrid comes across as incredibly self-confident, her character changes very quickly when she's outmaneuvered by the Dragonborn and the remaining bunch of Brotherhood members.

In her final words, she acknowledges she acted without respect towards Sithis. While Astrid believes she'll be punished by Sithis within the Void, the Night Mother states that she'll most likely find redemption there. This is a surprisingly peaceful and just approach for someone like the Night Mother. Another defining feature of Astrid's is her husband, Arnbjorn, a rather rude and rough-around-the-edges member of the Brotherhood. He turns out to be a werewolf, which in turn gives away the fact that he was once associated with the Companions.

Arnbjorn was no doubt exiled from the ranks of the Companions due to his taste for death and pain. In that sense, he's an exceptional Nord just like Astrid, which makes them a perfect pair. As mentioned, Astrid cannot die aside from the two occasions during which she's marked as non-essential. If she's spared during the main events of the Brotherhood's questline , she becomes a essential and cannot die.

This makes her an ideal character to use for leveling up quickly. Astrid will always be marked several levels above the Dragonborn themselves, which is why it's a great strategy to whack at her to level up. Skyrim is a game that's infamous for having several hilarious bugs, and there's one in particular that concerns Astrid.

When the Dragonborn finds her burned corpse at the brink of death at the end of the Brotherhood questline, she can actually come back to life for a brief moment. If the Dragonborn tries to pickpocket her, Astrid might jump up and try to attack them, which in turn might inspire Nazir to attack her back.
