Hello Karen. A special quiche pan is not necessary for excellent results. A pie pan is absolutely perfect! Why I personally use quiche pans: The special quiche pans with removable bottoms allows me to lift the quiche up and out of the pan and then slip off the outer ring. This allows me to present and serve my quiches on cake stands for parties and family gatherings.
